Email outage

February 8th, 2008 · No Comments

If you’re bored, here’s what really happened…About 48 hours ago, we PAINFULLY experienced a RAID failure on the Exchange server.  The primary drive had failed, the secondary drive kicked in, and failed shortly after.  A new drive was added in to the mix to attempt to rebuild the RAID.  Suprise, failure also.  In the meantime, we were solely relying on LiveArchive, a feature of ExchangeDefender.  Next we added in a new RAID controller, and attempted to bring the original RAID back online.  Nope.  Then a rebuild using the primary drive and a replacement. Nope.  Rebuild using the secondary drive and replacement. Nope.  Ok, we’re now almost 18 hours into the failure.  Thoughts of a quick virtual server, cross our mind.  But knowing that we’re not completely down, we forge ahead with rebuilding the original box.  The OS is reloaded, Exchange reloaded, backups restored and all begins to sync back.  We appreciated everyone’s patience while we’ve been on a slight delay getting back via email.
